Every August, the Manitowoc community has gathered together on the Lake Michigan shoreline to take part in three days of family-friendly games, entertainment, and summer activities while raising funds in support of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. In 2016, your fundraising efforts exceeded all expectations, with a total of $86,796.85 raised for Children’s. While we are saddened to announce that 2016 has marked the end of this incredible festival, we also want to recognize all that we have accomplished together.
Each year, there are approximately 2,500 visits made to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin by Manitowoc County children. Over the course of the 26 years of this longstanding summer event, you have helped us raise more than $1.5 million in support of the critical and kid-focused care needed by children in our own community and throughout the state. Children’s relies on community support to fund programs and services for Wisconsin kids and families, and we can’t thank you enough for your meaningful contributions to this great cause. The money raised by Lakeshore Weekend has helped fund critical patient programs and units such as Child Life, Family Resource Centers, Cardiac Cath Lab, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (which has newly renovated space named for Lakeshore Weekend Manitowoc), and so much more.
Behind every great community event is a team of dedicated committee members, sponsors, and volunteers – Lakeshore Weekend Manitowoc is no exception. And of course, this event wouldn’t have such an impressive history without the driving force, loyalty and commitment of event chairs, Randy and Connie Heinzen.
The amount of money raised for the kids of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has saved lives. You, the Manitowoc community, have saved lives. We will miss this wonderful annual display of community support, and look forward to the new traditions ahead.
